Braid Quilt on the Frame

I have the Eleanor Burns Quilt in A Day Braid Quilt on the frame.  I decided to first stitch in the ditch the seams (except for the actual braids).  I'm using a ruler, but still struggle.  I need so much more practice with the rulers.  Almost done with the SID.
Stiching in the Ditch
I plan to put free motion curvy feathers in the light strips and a simple ribbon through the braids.  Borders, I haven't quite decided, but I think I might try my hand at ribbon candy.

If I spent more time at the frame rather than a quilt here and there, I know I'd get much better at it.  Best laid plans and all that! haha

Arrival of the Quilt

Got a call last night from my grandson.  He loves the quilt!  Whew!  His mom took pics as he opened the box and saw the quilt. I had written, well, typed him a letter with pictures outlining the process of making the quilt.  Apparently, he read the whole letter before pulling the quilt from the bag! LOL
What's this?

It's a quilt!

He looks happy!

Grandson's Quilt

I'm so excited that I can finally share what I've been working on for...ummm...a year??!!  My grandson is in his 20's and his mom told me that she thought he would love a quilt from me.  Really?  Wow!  What's his favorite colors?? Gray, black, purple.   I need a pattern!  Wait I have a template & instructions from Nancy's Notions that I can use.  After several virtual quilts in EQ7, hubby and I settled on one.   Found a great collection of grays and blacks at Connecting Threads.  A manly fabric of course with plaids, spirals, dots, circles, plaids, did I say plaids?  Then found a solid in purple.  Ordered!  Now I cut strips.  Lots of strips.  I should have ordered precuts...oh well.....  Then the strips are sewn into 2 sets of 3.
Each of these stacks is an inch high!
Begin the sub-cuts.
Using the template, the corners are cut off.  I'll save these for another quilt.
Finally all cuts are done and stacked in sets of 4.  Wait...I have another whole set of strips to cut....
Now begins the block assembly.  See all those points to match???  A pin in each and a finger prick.

Finally...blocks are done.
What's next?  More pin pricks as I sew the blocks into rows, the rows together into a quilt top.  My poor finger.....  Now it's on the frame for quilting!  Yea!!!!

All quilted and binding is being sewn.  Man, this is a large quilt!  See my binding holder set up?  Works great!  A toilet paper cardboard over the knee lift with a binder clip to keep the roll from slipping off the end.
2 practice blocks left over.  Hmmm...I can make a couple of  pillowcases!
All done!

Boxed up and shipped!

Little Quilt Series - February

Finished up the February Little.  I put a wide border on it which can be trimmed down if needed depending upon the layout of the future quilt top into which it will be included.  I currently have no idea of what quilt top, but maybe by the time I've done several of these Littles through out the year, an idea will come to me! haha
February Little
This one measures about 13.5" x 18.5" including border.

Little Quilts Series

I've started on February's Little Quilt.  It's all HST, 108 of them all turned the same way, and all 1.5"!  The quilt will measure about 11.5" x 14.5".  I think I will not quilt this one and save it for something.  Maybe it and some of the other Little Quilts throughout the year will lend themselves to be sewn into a quilt top.  I really have no use for such small quilts.  No wall room in my sewing room to display them.  Anyway, I had a bunch of 2.5" squares left over from a recent quilt along and a pack of 2.5" squares from Moda in light colors, so I'm paring those.  A couple of samples done, so I'll start the clothes lining sewing.

Pat Sloan's Vacation - February Block

This month's block is called Toes in the Sand.  Since it's a heart block, I guess Pat loves the feel of her toes in the sand.  Not me!  I'm not a beach person...never was.  Altho I did go through the Sun Goddess phase of my life and lay out in the sun until I was about 10 shades darker!  Knock wood, so far I'm not paying for that with skin cancers.  These days, if I'm out in the sun (which isn't very often), I'm slathered in sunscreen.

Here's the February block
