Christmas Stockings 3

Here's another finished.  One more to go!!  Besides the embroidery from hatchedinafrica and my own digitizing, I added some decorative stitching.  Combined 3 stitches to make the 3 'icicle' drops.  A satin stitch, then a decorative stitch next to it, and finally a bean stitch on each side of the satin.  A bean stitch is a straight stitch that goes back over itself several times.

Christmas Stockings 2

Another one finished!  The Colorwork embroidery in the center section is from and I digitized the quilting behind.  The rest was created/digitized by me.  I used gold metallic thread to separate the sections and around the top.

Alphabet Animal Quilt finished!

I used a large elephant head panto on the quilt.  I could have used any ol' design as this one didn't show up and even on the back it's hard to make out the head!  Oh well!  I don't think Baby Layla will care.

Alpha Animal Panel Quilt

Been working on this so my new granddaughter will have a quilt to lay on when on the floor.  She'll be 3 months old when I get to meet her!  Hurry December!

This was a panel & coordinating fat quarters that I'd purchased a couple years ago.  Originally I was going to make a donation quilt to Project Linus...but then we found out a grand baby was expected, so now it'll be for her.

Panel blocks cut apart, plain blocks cut, and 4 patch blocks made.

Animal Alpha Panel pieces
Added some fun green sashing and top is complete.  Now to figure out what design I want to use for quilting.  I'll bind it in red.

Carol Doak's Scrap Scramble

While in Houston, I also worked on the Scrap Scramble BOM.  I was so excited to finish the last 2 block sets.  Then discovered while placing on the design board that I was missing some....I hadn't printed out April's!!!  AAARRRGH!!  Will I ever get this quilt finished??!!!

March Scrap Scramble

May Scrap Scramble
There are also several smaller parts that go with these 2 blocks, but I didn't take pics of those.  I have already sorta got all the blocks & parts arranged in a stack and didn't want to scrounge around to find the other parts.

And yes, I have printed out the last block set and I WILL get this quilt day! LOL

November Little Quilt

While visiting my friend down Houston way during the Houston International Quilt Festival, I completed the Little Quilt for November.  This one measures about 17" square.

Rather than piecing the hour glass block, I chose to applique the hour glass.  I like it!

Pat Sloan Vacation BOM

This is the last month of blocks for the Vacation BOM.  Filler blocks and borders and assembly are the instructions for October.  There are 2 filler block sets.  One has 2 blocks sewn together and the other filler blocks have a lot of piecing to do!  I'll end up with 13 blocks of one colorway and 19 blocks of another  colorway.

The 2 sewn together blocks are completed, name of Bathing Beauty.
October-Bathing Beauty
And I'm working on the Sea Shells blocks.
Oct-Seashells in progress
I'm wondering why Pat didn't have us cut a larger square and dog ear all 4 corners rather than what we are doing??!!!  Wish I'd read ahead before cutting the pieces!!!  Lots of sewing  ahead on these fillers.

October Little Quilt

Finished up the October Little Quilt from Quilt with Us-Connecting Threads.  It's not like the original as I mis-figured on my cutting...imagine that!!  And didn't have enough of all fabrics to recut.  So I followed the advice of It's Not a Mistake....It's a Creative Opportunity!  I won't tell you what's wrong because we're not supposed to point out our mistakes, right??!!

October Little Quilt
I decided to leave off the outer border and left this one to measure about 15" square.

Current Project - Scrap Bustin'

I'm trying to get my stash down and use up some of the older fabrics I have.  And I'm trying to make myself more comfortable doing scrap quilting.  Pat Sloan's latest scrap challenge is a block she calls Little Wishes.  This one is somewhat controllable for me, which keeps me from going out of orbit. I've cut enough scraps to make probably 22 blocks and have the pieces separated into bags.  All the HSTs have been sewn, trimmed, and pressed.
Trimming takes forever!!
The star points are the same 2 fabrics, both dark.  Fewer of one fabric than the other so that not all blocks will have both.  This block has both and it was so hard for me not to change out what I grabbed from the bag!  Wouldn't you know I'd grab 2 of the lesser points and sew them together right off the bat!!!!
First Little Wishes Block
First block is done and I'm happy with it, so now I'll sew all the center 9-patch brights and throw them back into the bag, then move on to sewing all the star points together and back in the bag they will go.  We'll see how well I can control my impulse to return to the bag what I grabbed!!

September's Little Quilt

Top's done on this month's Little Quilt.  This one is a bit larger.  It measures about 22" x 26".  Trying to tone down the brightness of the green, which isn't that bright in real life, I managed to turn the purple fabrics into grays and blues!  The original pattern had all the squares in the top right corner.  To me, it looked too much like the attic window we'd done previously.  So I flipped the blocks and came up with this chevron.  I like it!

Pat Sloan's Vacation Time BOM

I'm caught up with the Vacation Time blocks.  August was borders and a lot of repetitive sewing.  I really dislike repetitive sewing, so do a lot of procrastination!  Here's the Salt Water Taffy borders.

July Little Quilt

This one measures 16.5" square.  I'm now caught up with my Little Quilts. Whup! Whup!  I'd done most of this quilt at the retreat, but discovered I'd not cut enough red for the 4 corner stars.

July Little Quilt
I like this one!  A shout out to our armed forces and their families!!  Thank you for keeping me safe.  I paper pieced this, in case anyone is interested.  Small individual fabric pieces to sew together don't agree with me! LOL

Just got back from a quilting retreat.  Lots of fun, lots of laughs, lots of talk, lots of sewing machines humming.

I made progress on one of the BOM blocks from Carol Doak's Scrap Scramble.  Still have 2 more sets of blocks to do before I can put the quilt top together.
Feb Scrap Scramble block

Individual Heart blocks - Feb Scrap Scramble
There are 9 of these individual heart blocks.

I completed the August Little Quilt, however, I failed to cut enough pieces for July's Little and forgot to take the fabric with me.  This one measures 20"x16".  Finally found something in which to use that Texas Wildflowers fabric!!
August Little Quilt
Got blocks pieced and this top put together.  It measures about 48"x60".  I had a jelly roll and 5" sampler packet of Kaffe Fassett fabrics and finally found a block that I felt like I could handle.  The wild prints and colors of his fabrics are gorgeous, but are so overwhelming to me.  Separating them with a calming tonal was just the ticket for me!

The Bellagio Bag - Sort of!

Decided to make a purse using the Bellagio Bag pattern from Studio Kat Designs.  I didn't want the binding over the seams, so I put it together differently, which cause some problems with the zipper portion.  But I finally got things to behave themselves.

Circles Purse
I used some Bali Pops to piece the outer pockets (I put this on both sides, which is different from the pattern, too).  It needed something more and I remembered a design that Amanda Whitlatch did when she was making the Software Sampler Videos for Bernina. This was from Lesson 7, 2014.  I shrunk it down to fit the pocket area, but I love how it looks over the pieced strips.

More Baby Things!

Now that the parents have received these items, I can finally share what I've been working on for our granddaughter who is due in September.

Each of these letter buntings measure about 9"x13". I blanked out most of the letters as I don't want her name all over social media.  These started out as a design from Hatched in Africa, Easter Buntings.  I added, deleted, and re-arranged until I got what I wanted.  The lettering is another design from Hatched in Africa, Tudor Lace Monograms.  Each bunting took about 2 hrs to stitch out.  I added to the original design's lace edging to made it wider and also added extra stitching around the outer edge.

Decided to add spacers between the letters, so I made 6 hearts and 6 owls. They can use them as spacers, or use them on their own.  These designs I digitized myself.

And of course, we need the quilt. This one measures about 39"x51" in Mom's colors of gray, pink, white.

Pat Sloan's Vacation Time - July Block

I've been busy working on baby things...imagine that!  The box has been mailed off and I'm awaiting word that they received it before posting any photos.  In the meantime, I got back to working on other things.

Here's the July block of Pat Sloan's Vacation Time.  She calls this one The Hot Dog Stand.

A Few Granddaughter Things

Our granddaughter is due to arrive in September. Whup! Whup!  We have a marvelous 22 year old grandson and thought that was it for grandkids.  Life has it's way and son met a lovely gal and they are pregnant!  Everyone is excited, of course.  We are scheduled to meet the baby & mother in December and, of course, I've been making a few things.  They had a baby shower that we were not able to attend, but I sent them a few things just to have something to open from us.  The baby's room will be pink, gray, white.

NYE 2014 Mystery Quilt Top is Together!

Finally!  At least it's taken me less than a year to get this top put together!!!  I threw it over the bedspread and pillows to get this shot.  Colors are fairly accurate, altho the background mottled pink doesn't show up too well.  This is a twin size measuring about 72"x90".

Texas Snowflake quilting

I had to put aside the NYE Mystery quilt to get a top quilted for an upcoming housewarming gift.  Decided to use the Texas Snowflake quilt from a few years ago.  It was a Carol Doak BOM from her Yahoo Group.  Remember this??
Texas Snowflake on the frame
And here's a closeup of the simple quilting I'm doing.  I created the design from a pattern in the fabric.  See it in the large triangle fabric piece next to the quilting?  I made the pattern into a panto, but I probably could have done this free motion, too.
Texas Snowflake quilting motif
I had planned on practicing some fancy quilting on this one as there's a lot of open space to play with.  However, since it's needed quickly, no fancy stuff this time!

QT New Year's Eve Mystery Progress

I've been working on this NYE Mystery Quilt again.  Making some good progress finally.  All those small pieces are finally sewn together and await pressing.

Waiting for pressing
After a day of pressing, I'm now giving everything a final trimming before assembling the top.  Slow process, this trimming!
Final Trimming
Even tho I used 2 pink fabrics for the background, I still ran out!  The quilt is supposed to have sashing with cornerstones, but mine won't.  It will make a neat secondary block though.

May Little Quilt completed

It isn't even May yet and I've got the May Little Quilt top finished.  This one measures about 18"x22" and will join the other Little completed tops.  Eventually they will all go into one quilt, maybe two, depending upon what I end up with at the end of the year.  I'd like to remake January's Little and make it the size it should be.  If you remember, I made it larger so it would cover the fireplace Black Hole.  We'll see....

Now I need to get back to this mystery quilt from New Year's!!
Just waiting for me....

Triangular Adventures Finished!

Got this one done and enjoyed doing different quilting in each block.  Lots of good practice.  Lots of fun!

And here are closeups of each block.  It was windy today, so I had to hold the quilt against the fence to get some of the blocks.  Luckily, I caught a good shot of the whole quilt in between gusts!!
