Another Top on the Frame

I loaded another quilt top on the frame yesterday.  Spent the evening looking through quilt pattern books for ideas.  Got a couple.  I'd like to do some ruler work on this quilt.  It may take me a day or more to begin quilting on this one as I need to decide what I want to do.

You may remember how I struggled with this quilt.  I dislike the fabric...really dislike that fabric!...and I made so many mistakes and had to rip it out.  This is the one that sent me into a funk for a month or so and I sewed nothing at all.  Finally got the top completed at the retreat I went to earlier this year in Galveston.  So I'm using this one to do my first ruler work.  I'll have to ignore the fabric and concentrate on the layout.  It will be donated also, so I will try to do a good job as I learn.

In case you are wondering what that striped triangle thing is on the edge of the quilt.  It's a square piece of ticking fabric folded twice into a triangle with grosgrain ribbon sewn to the long edge.  It is used as an extension to the side of the quilt so that the machine doesn't hit the tension clamp when at the edge of the quilt.  The grosgrain side is pinned to the batting/backing and the tension clamp is clipped to the corner.  This was discussed on a Longarm Yahoo group that I belong to and I think it will be a great addition to my frame.  I rummaged through my bag of ribbons and found some oddball grosgrain to use.  The one in the picture was tied around a bundle of fabrics I purchased.  On the other side of the quilt the ribbon on that triangle is bright orange!

Finished Quilt!

This one will be my first donation quilt.  I'm already feeling pangs of missing it! LOL  But I know someone needs it more than I.
Donation Quilt

I used fabric from my stash, except backing. I never have enough backing or background fabrics on hand!  On this quilt, I used a panto called Loop Lace from Munnich Designs.  I have their Panto-Lite software and this design came with the software.

On to the next quilt!!

Put a quilt on the frame finally!!

I'm using a panto on this one.  Hubby needs to do a bit more work on my machine.  There is no speed control on the on/off button on the back of the machine where I do panto work and it's sewing at full speed!!  Hard to follow the pattern smoothly when it's at breakneck speed and still get even stitches, not to mention getting more thread breaks than I would at a slower speed.  This quilting is definitely not my best, but hopefully someone will enjoy it.

Almost done with the quilt now, need to bind it and add a label.  I'll post a picture of the finished quilt.  This one will be a donation quilt.

May's Globetrotter Block

This month, we traveled to London, England for our block.  Wouldn't that be a nice trip if it were really true?  I'm keeping up with this BOM from Quilt Along with Pat Sloan on Facebook, but I've fallen behind on Carol Doak's Yahoo group's Scrap Scramble.  I've a retreat coming up in the fall and plan to work on those there, as well as another Quilt Along that I didn't get finished.

Here's May's block.

Picture's a bit blurry...your eyes are fine! LOL

Off to put a quilt on the frame and get cracking on that stack of quilt tops to be done!  Whup! Whup!!

The Embroidery Is Done!!!

Whew!  Finished!  The embroidery, that is - 18 blocks, each a different design layout.  The top measures about 83" x 60".  I love how this turned out!!

JUQ Spring 2014 Mystery Quilt Top Finished's a few close ups of some of the blocks.

And you know I have to make a label!!!

All embroidery designs are from Hatched In Africa.  I used elements from Spring Leaves collection and Floral Sketches Set 3. Birdies are from Little Birdies Applique, Autumn Birdies, and Autumn Crow collections.  The label is created in the Bernina Embroidery Software using one of the designs from Little Birdies Applique (birdie with text) and I added my information and a pretty border.

Embroidery Takes A Lot of Time!

Making some progress with the embroidery on the JUQ Spring Mystery quilt.  Quilt top is sewn together and I've gotten 6 embroideries done.  Not even half way!  These have thread changes frequently, so I can't work on anything else.  Besides, I have to hold the quilt top and make sure it doesn't get caught in the stitches or falls off and interferes with the embroidery arm.  That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!  Here's a peak at the embroideries so far.

These blocks are 10" large and each embroidery fits in the Jumbo hoop of my Bernina 830.  One hooping per design!  Love it!

I think the time spent on this will be worth it.
